The Möhkö speaker concept was developed for the New Materials, New Designs competition, organized by Young Finnish Designers. The design aims in creating not only a speaker but also a sculptural element in the space.
Möhkö is inspired by stones and mythical creatures. The shape of Möhkö aims to have the effect of pareidolia, a phenomenon where people see likeness – such as faces or bodies – in inanimate objects. Möhkö's organic, abstract shape invites people to see and observe it as an object that feels familiar, but includes some mystique in it.
The competition was organised in collaboration with Sulapac, thus, the material for this concept was chosen from their materials. Material called Universal was selected, which is a material made of side stream wood and biodegradable biopolymers. The speaker would be manufactured using injection moulding, allowing for precise, efficient production.
