Ööttings is a series of peculiar, hand-built ceramic objects whose purpose remains open-ended. They appear as if they might have a function, yet upon closer inspection, their meaning is not necessarily practical. Rather, they invite imagination and playful interpretation. The pieces were created intuitively, without prior planning, in a dialogue between hands and material. The series highlights the importance of embodied making and the unpredictability of the process.
The Ööttings works were made from low-fired clay left over from the Olla-asema projects (2022 and 2025), emerging alongside their construction as a way to unwind. The name playfully derives from Earth-things, but also echoes the Finnish expression “öö” – a sound akin to “hmm” in English, capturing a moment of hesitation, wonder, or curiosity that these objects may evoke.
